SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY
St. Patrick School is a Catholic parish elementary school offering a comprehensive education/faith formation program from Kindergarten through grade 8. As a member of the Archdiocese of Detroit, St. Patrick School recognizes its responsibility to work in solidarity with the Catholic Church of Detroit. As a parish school, St. Patrick strives to educate its students in the beliefs, practices and traditions of the Catholic faith. More specifically,
WE BELIEVE that Catholic education should be based on a holistic model: a loving school community in which faith is experienced and lived. This includes moral formation and discipline, spiritual and scriptural teachings and innovative instruction. This curriculum of academic excellence stimulates, motivates, dignifies and promotes an awareness of social responsibility.
WE BELIEVE that effective education promotes dignity, addresses individual needs, develops human potential, invites inquiry and problem solving and prepares persons to live as contributing and productive members of society.
WE BELIEVE the family is the primary and foremost educator of children. We support this great responsibility by forming positive partnerships with children and families. Strong communication between home and school is an essential component of our education/formation program.
WE BELIEVE that a true Christian understands a responsibility to every other person and lives that responsibility according to the model that Jesus Christ set for us.
- Our continuing emphasis rests on:
- Establishing a Christian atmosphere of mutual respect, care and concern
- Building a climate fostering the development of a strong, positive self- image
- Creating an awareness of and interest in the global mission of the church and encouraging involvement in this mission through education, Christian witness and material support
- Assisting parents to participate actively in the sacramental preparation of their child
- Developing a sense of responsibility towards and a proper use of all property buildings, equipment and premises of the parish and community
- Providing opportunities during the school year to celebrate events and holidays
- Providing all students with continued growth, encompassing spiritual, academic, social and physical areas
- Instilling in each student a genuine love of learning so that he/she will continue his/her own intellectual and spiritual growth in later years.
