PARENT PARTICIPATION GUIDELINES

We are always in need of the services of parent volunteers to assist in the many facets of school operation. Being a parent volunteer can be a rewarding experience. Not only will you be helping children to learn, but you also will learn how your school is changing to meet the needs of children. The more help you can provide, the better job we can do to improve instruction for your child.

In order to participate in any classroom/field trip activity all parents must have the following paperwork on file in the school office. Criminal Background Check, Protecting All God’s Children Workshop certificate and a volunteer driver form (for field trips). This criteria must be met in order to participate in any school related activities.

BIRTHDAY TREATS

If you would like to recognize your child’s birthday by sending a treat, please check with his/her teacher regarding the classroom policy.

 CHANGE OF ADDRESS

It is important to notify the school office if there is a change of address or telephone number.  If both parents work, please send to school an emergency number in case the school is unable to reach you at either home or work.

 COMMUNICATION

Communication between home and school is essential.  The school communicates through a variety of vehicles.  These include: a weekly newsletter, a monthly calendar, and a summer mailing.  Special notices can also be sent home through school or the mail.  Additionally, teachers will send home periodic news bulletins.

 EARLY DISMISSAL/LATE ARRIVAL

Doctor or other appointments should be scheduled outside school hours and on school holidays whenever possible.  If a child needs to be dismissed early or arrives after the start of school he/she must bring a note to the teacher stating time and reason.  Parents must sign the child out in the school office.

 FIELD TRIPS

Field trips are considered privileges for students.  Teachers may restrict or refuse trips as deemed necessary. Sponsors of field trips will obtain a written parental permission for all trips.  The school assumes no liability for injury on the field trips.  Parents must complete a permission slip for a student to participate in a field trip.

The drivers of vehicles transporting students to school events are responsible for the safety of the students on the field trip. Each year they must have on file at St. Patrick School a VOLUNTEER DRIVER INFORMATION FORM.  They must carry a minimum of $250,000/$500,000 liability insurance before students will be allowed to accompany them on a field trip.  Drivers must be at least 21 years of age.

The number of students being transported in a vehicle must not exceed the number of seat belts.  Students must wear seat belts whenever the vehicle is moving.  Drivers must follow information on the permission slips.  No extra stops may be added.

Medical Information Forms for overnight or out of state trips must be on file in the school office.
